چکیده
Three experiments were conducted involving 162, 4 to 6 kg pigs group fed. Nine pigs were allotted per treatment aceording to breed, weight and sex and received feed and water ad libitum. Each experiment had a control treatment (125 ppm total solids) compared to saline water treatments (approximately 6,000 ppm total solids) high in either sulfates or chlorides. In addition the sulfate water was treated with 150 ppm nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) or with 300 ppm NO3-N while the chloride water was also treated with 300 ppm NOa-N. Average final weights in experiment I and III were 20 kg after 6 weeks on test while average final weights in experiment II were 9 kg after a 3-week test. No significant treatment differences (P< .05)occurred in average daily gain in any experiment. However, with the exception of the pigs given the chloride water in experiment III, the control pigs tended to consume more feed, gain faster and have a better F/G than those receiving 6,000 ppm total solids, particularly in experiment I. Scouring was consistently more common among the sulfate water fed pigs than either the control of chloride fed pigs. Approximately 80% of the scouring occurred in the first week on test. Water consumption was generally higher for saline water treatments. No treatment differences occurred among liver vitamin A values, kidney weights, or kidney histological structure in the four pigs per treatment sacrificed at the end of Experiment 1. In conjunction with experiment 1, blood, fecal and urine samples were collected from two pigs per treat-

Impacts of blending ground, surface, and saline waters on lead release in drinking water distribution systems.
The impacts of distribution water quality changes caused by blending different source waters on lead release from corrosion loops containing small lead coupons were investigated in a pilot distribution study. The 1-year pilot study demonstrated that lead release to drinking water increased as chlorides increased and sulfates decreased. Silica and calcium inhibited lead release to a lesser degre...
متن کاملSugar and inorganic anions content in mineral and spring water-based beverages.
BACKGROUND Carbonated and non-carbonated beverages manufactured based on mineral and spring waters have been present at the Polish market shortly, and their production and sales are regularly growing. The products have become commonly known as flavoured waters. OBJECTIVE The aim of the work was to identify and assess the content of carbohydrates used for sweetening mineral and spring water-ba...

Biotransformation of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in the presence of microsomal fractions derived from liver and epiderm of adult and weanling rats was examined. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of age on the capacity of two organs in transformation of BaP. Subcellular fractions were prepared from skin and liver by ultracentrifugation and were used as the source of BaP metabolizing enzy...
متن کاملImpacts of a flash flood on drinking water quality: case study of areas most affected by the 2012 Beijing flood
In this study, we present a method for identifying sources of water pollution and their relative contributions in pollution disasters. The method uses a combination of principal component analysis and factor analysis. We carried out a case study in three rural villages close to Beijing after torrential rain on July 21, 2012. Nine water samples were analyzed for eight parameters, namely turbidit...
متن کاملEvaluating trihalomethane content in drinking water on the basis of common monitoring parameters: regression models.
The presence of trihalomethanes (THMs) in potable-water sources is an issue of great interest because of the negative impact THMs have on human health. The objective of this study was to correlate the presence of trihalomethanes with more routinely monitored parameters of water quality, in order to facilitate THM control. Water samples taken at various stages of treatment from a water treatment...
